Expressions of interest for President of MOMS closed on 29th September. There was one EOI from Dr Lucy Mackillop (current president). The MOMS exec have, therefore, endorsed the reappointment of Dr Mackillop for a further 3 year term.
Message from the President:
“It is an honour to take on the leadership of MOMS for another 3 years. This is an incredibly important time for MOMS and maternal medicine in general. I look forward to continuing to work with the wonderful executive team to grow our society and support our members to fulfil our society mission statements.”
Dr Mackillop’s EoI Statement
I have had the honour of being president of MOMS for the last 3 years. 3 years of COVID lock downs and highly successful MOMS webinars; 3 years in which our membership has grown 400%; we have set up the Joint Committee for Obstetric Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), which I chair, and been an active member of the team delivering the new curricula for maternal medicine at RCOG; we have modernised our website to support more members and we are financially stable.
Yet there is plenty more to do, therefore, I would like to reapply for a further (and final) 3 year term to complete what I set out to do. I am pleased that MOMS is organising and financially supporting the first meeting of all network leads in Norwich in November. MOMS has a pivotal role in the success of the networks, and if re-elected, I will push for MOMS to coordinate national initiatives with the networks particularly around education and training. Another initiative I would like to develop is MOMS patient and public engagement. Understanding and engaging with our service users is critically important and MOMS is well placed to provide tools, information, and funding to support our members in this regard. Finally, obstetric medicine is now recognised by the RCP as a specialty, with the successful credential in obstetric medicine. The next milestone is GMC recognition and I believe I am best placed to lead MOMS in getting this across the line.
